Photography training program for refugee youth
In 2020 I designed and taught this 4-month photography course for a refugee youth training program through the Community Migrant Refugee Centre. Many of the students had fled from war-torn countries and extreme hardship to begin a new life in Australia. The students used smart phones to capture their images. The students learned about composition, light, photographic processes, working on assignments and photographing within their communities. Capturing moments and composing compelling portraits were some of the outcomes of this community outreach program.

ART of LONG-FORM DOCUMENTARY
I developed and facilitated the course structure of a series of Master classes in collaboration with Oculi in 2014. The Master Classes were conducted over four months culminating in an exhibition of project work at 10x8 gallery in Sydney. I coordinated 5 other member teachers as well as guest speakers over four months. Each day, I was onsite to ensure smooth running and transition. The unique approach of the multi-month Master Classes allowed students to develop a body of work over a period of time. Three photographers spent time with the students each month, exposing them to their personal practice and approach whilst providing guidance and mentorship to the students. The students received a comprehensive overview of how to create, refine and promote long-form documentary stories, as well as the common pitfalls working photographers encounter when developing personal work. The students worked on a series over the course of four months and received feedback and
new perspectives over the course.
